1 From the name and sleek, stylish packaging, we expected Kshocolat to be made by an ultra-cool, avant-garde German producer, but were surprised to find it's made in Scotland. Kshocolat drinking chocolate (available in dark or milk for HK$122.50 for a 350 gram tin from Great, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 9986) isn't the instant stuff to which you just add boiling water, but it's not difficult to make either: you just spoon some of the chocolate pieces (they're tiny, for easy melting) into a mug and add hot milk, then stir.

2 We discovered Come In Homei crispy prawn chilli sauce years ago at a food fair. Made from dried shrimp, chillis, shallots, garlic, oil, seasonings and 'flavour enhancer' (aka monosodium glutamate), it's a great dipping sauce for meats and works well when tossed with egg noodles and a splash of soy sauce. It's available from supermarkets for about HK$50 for a 340 gram jar.

3 We were prepared to dislike this granola just because the producer, the Good Carb Food Company, uses a heart instead of an apostrophe in 'Lizi's', and on the back of the bag boasts more about being 'low glycaemic' than about how the granola tastes. But actually, it's not bad, although it would taste better with a sliced banana, a sprinkling of sugar and some full-fat milk.
