A paperbark tree in Sheung Shui, listed on the register of old and valuable trees, was cut down yesterday because it had become unstable after being damaged by Typhoon Hagupit last month, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said. Propping up the tree, in the Kwu Tung section of Castle Peak Road and Fanling Highway, was not an option, it said.
