YSL collection under the hammer

The art collection of the late Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge will go on auction next February. Christie's has unveiled the highlights from several hundred pieces, including works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Mondrian as well as European furniture, ceramics, objets d'art, Old Masters, drawings and more. All proceeds from the auction - expected to raise between US$290 million and US$440 million - will go to the Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, and to a new organisation set up by Berge to fund scientific and medical research into fighting HIV/Aids.
