P&O starts new cargo route

P&O Containers has launched a new service from major Far East ports to inland Iran, southern Russia and Afghanistan via the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

P&O Containers is the first line to offer the route, which is arguably the safest and most reliable way to these destinations.

The new route has been made possible by P&O Containers link-up with Perse International, Iran's largest and most reputable transport company, which will arrange the movement of cargo from Bandar Abbas to the final destinations.

P&O utilises its current twice-weekly service to ship cargo from the Far East to Bandar Abbas, with transshipment via Singapore.

From Bandar Abbas, Perse International arranges to transport cargo by truck or rail to the inland destinations.

Transit time from Bandar Abbas to Afghanistan is only 10 days, and to Baku and Ashkabad takes a mere 20 days. P&O offers a through bill of lading.

Meanwhile, P&O Containers MEGA service, operating between US east coast and Gulf coast ports, is being upgraded to a fixed-day weekly service, following changes to port rotation and the upgrading of tonnage operated on the route.

The new arrangements include an eastbound call at Malta and regular weekly calls in the US, the Gulf and at Bombay's Nhava Sheva.

Nine vessels operating on a 63-day voyage cycle will make the following stops: New York, Algeciras, Malta, Jeddah, Dubai, Bombay, Jeddah, Malta, Algeciras, Halifax, New York, Baltimore, Miami, Houston, Charleston, Baltimore and New York.
