An eight-year-old Korean girl abandoned by her adoptive Dutch diplomat parents in Hong Kong two years ago has been placed with a family.
'Jade has been matched with an adoptive family,' a spokesman for the Social Welfare Department said last week. 'The placement is stable and smooth.'
The spokesman would not give more details to protect her privacy.
The news will come as relief to thousands in the community who flooded the Korean consulate and the Sunday Morning Post with gifts and offers to adopt the eight-year-old when her plight was revealed before Christmas last year.
And it comes as community organisations begin a push to end the stigma of adoption in Hong Kong.
Mother's Choice is organising a three-week festival on adoption next month, the first in Hong Kong.
Workshops, seminars and talks will be organised by Mother's Choice and organisations such as the Council of Social Service.
