Animal rights group finds suspected dog abattoir
A suspected dog slaughtering site in Tseung Kwan O was discovered yesterday by an animal rights group.
The Animal Life Guard Action Group said it found what it described as a dog execution ground at a derelict single-storey house on a hillside near Sheung Tak Estate. Members believe the meat was being sold to customers who knew it was dog meat.
Ho Loy, the founder of the animal care group, said: 'Bones and remains were everywhere. We've collected five bags of bones, some looked like dog jaws. I'm really angry. This is the most horrific case I've ever seen.'
The group found four choppers and meat knives in the hut's yard. There was also some air pistol pellets, animal traps, hooks and a wok. Three adult mongrels and four puppies were found in the house. One of the adult dogs had a 60cm knife scar. Two of the dogs ran away after they were released. The others were taken to a vet.
Ms Ho said residents nearby told her the site had been operated by more than three men, who had killed dogs with batons. They said they had sold the dog meat to nearby stores in a market managed by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
Ms Ho said she would call the police and contact the department about the case today.
