Alex Jenkins

Australian Matthew McBain fired a brilliant six-under-par 64 to top the leaderboard at the Masters Golf Fashion Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship at Fanling yesterday. McBain, 24, stands at 207 (three-under-par) through three rounds to lead by one shot over Taiwan's Yang Fei-hao. Liu Chen-lin, also from Taiwan, lies in third place, a further four shots adrift. The winner of this week's event earns an invitation to next month's UBS Hong Kong Open. Hong Kong's best-placed player is Doug Williams, tied for sixth place on 214 after a 73. McBain was consistency personified in the third round, firing six birdies and an eagle with just one bogey.
