Three arrested over killing of school principal in Lianjiang
Three young men have been arrested over the killing of a popular middle school principal in Lianjiang city , Guangdong.
Police arrested the men, aged between 18 and 21, six days after Huang Zhaoluan , principal of Lianjiang Middle School, was killed on his way to work, Hong Kong China News Agency reported yesterday.
The motive for the attack remained unclear, but the report quoted sources as saying preliminary investigations had ruled out the possibility that Huang, a well known educator and a political figure in the city, was killed 'because of debts or bold reform'.
The report said two suspects were arrested in Baise city , Guangxi , while another was arrested while hiding in small towns in Lianjiang city. All three are from Lianjiang. Police also recovered a motorcycle the suspects threw into a river near a Lianjiang industrial park after the incident.
Huang was stabbed five times on his legs, severing a main artery. The killing shocked many in Guangdong, who speculated his assailants were hitmen hired by his enemies.
Huang, 43, a vice-chairman of the Lianjiang township people's political consultative conference, was killed at 6am last Monday when he was waiting for his driver. The driver, who saw the attack, said the assailants had obviously waited for Huang.
