Punters were well and truly on the receiving end with one shock result after another, but jockey Gerald Mosse was the beneficiary of one of them when he made his return to the winners' list on Cosmo Successor.
Mosse had sat out the first nine meetings this season due to a suspension last June and had gone winless on his first two days back.
But the French maestro's judgment of pace in front proved the winning difference as Cosmo Successor turned around some long-term disappointments at odds of better than 30-1 in race two.
'He had pleased me in the stable and I did give him a chance because he goes forward and there was no speed in the race,' confessed trainer Me Tsui Yu-sak, who has only had the gelding for three starts.
The Derek Cruz-trained Didi (Terry Wong Chi-wai) floored punters in race three at more than 42-1, but his trainer also admitted to giving the horse a chance of winning his third start.
'He's been hard to handle - he really has a mind of his own,' Cruz said.
