Wong's Success looks hard to beat at his pet distance

John Bell

A return to his preferred course and distance and an inside barrier should result in capable Wong's Success finally bouncing back to his best in the middle pin of Sunday's Triple Trio at Sha Tin.

With the TT failing to go off on Sunday after a horror set of results, the main prize on offer could reach HK$6 million, and Wong's Success represents a great banker under in-form rider Alex Lai Hoi-wing.

The Francis Lui-trained gelding ended last season out of sorts, but hinted his winning turn was again on the horizon when running on impressively second-up to finish third to Winbo and Super Fantasy.

He was well fancied at his next appearance three weeks later, but didn't cope with the quick rise to 2,200 metres when finishing a laboured fifth to Brown Beauty.

The eight-year-old's last success came over this track and trip off a rating of six points higher and, with the advantage of gate one, he can take a more forward position in the run and prove hard to hold out in the final stages.

His toughest opposition will come from Nasa Pearl, Ever King, Perfect Match and Supreme Dragon, with the likely improver being Ka Ka Smart with an expected easy lead.

In the opening leg, Longwah Rising looks the best banker option as he has shown nice talent in two outings.

The Andy Leung Ting-wah-trained gelding turned in a smart debut effort after being held up in the straight, and his last performance after covering plenty of ground was full of merit.

He should press forward from a wide gate to camp on the speed and he'll be the one to gun down in the final stages.

Gallant Hussar made a good impression when resuming from a long break and he'll be the main danger, while other worthy inclusions are Fly Me To The Moon, Classic Reunion, Medallion and Moonglow.

The final leg looks tricky, but Majestic Heart is probably the safest banker, given he will relish a return to 1,600m.

He opened his winning account with a solid win two starts back when the blinkers were added for the first time, but he just found the 1,400m a shade too sharp when resuming. He will be improved by that outing and looks set to get a lovely run on the back of the speed under Brett Prebble.

Crush On You has really turned the corner of late and should be in the finish again. He has hit the line impressively at his last two appearances, and he lands in another suitable race. Accelerator and Expeditious should be right in the thick of things once again, Connoisseur's Love is hard to leave out on the back of a last-start win, while the likes of Kaiser's Choix, Kowloon Fit and Rocket And Gold will need luck to overcome wide gates.
