Open Air Market looks for a new home after Disco Bay farewell

Bad news for fans of the Open Air Market at Discovery Bay. The one on December 7 will probably be the last there. It appears DB landlord Hong Kong Resorts International (HKRI) is pulling out its sponsorship. For the market's founder, Tarlan Amigh, the repercussions don't just mean no market on the first Sunday of each month in the Lantau Island enclave; her whole Open Air operation could be endangered.

'From a business perspective, it means we just have to regroup,' said Amigh, who also runs a monthly flea market in Pok Fu Lam, and the Moonlight Movies series. 'Having a second market made it much more viable. We're now scrambling to find a new location. HKRI said that due to the economic downturn, they needed to revise their marketing budget. It's a shame really. We don't want to stop and it's not like we needed that much money: we're just two staff members in a crappy office.'

Amigh's next Open Air Market is at the Pok Fu Lam location, at the Podium, Cyberport, on November 16.

If you have a giant plot of land you're not using - like West Kowloon, Mr Chief Executive? - maybe you can call Amigh on 2523 6835.
