Mardi Gras parade for Arts in the Park

Rio has its Carnival, New Orleans is known for its Mardi Gras and the Youth Arts Festival hopes Hong Kong will soon be known for its Arts in the Park.

Since 2001, the outdoor all-ages festivity has been presented by the organisation in Victoria Park. Each year they fill it with displays, performances and music all day long by children of all ages - including many who are simply young at heart. This year's action is tomorrow and for the first time will include a full-scale parade, which is in keeping with the theme of Mardi Gras.

'It starts at 4pm and is modelled on Rio and the Knotting Hill festival in London. There'll be lots of kids in costumes and artists,' organiser Lindsey McAlister said. 'We'll have about 500 dancers in costumes and we've been working on them for about six months.'

A lot of the exhibits and floats feature scenes from the Gulliver's Travels story. All are welcome to join in. Arts in the Park begins tomorrow at 10am.
