Gary Duke, chief winemaker at Hunters Wines in New Zealand, will host a dinner this evening at the Helena May in Central. The four-course menu includes chicken, leek and mascarpone risotto paired with the Hunters Marlborough Chardonnay 2007, grilled fillet of New Zealand beef with glazed root vegetables and tarragon flavoured sabayon served with the Hunter's Pinot Noir 2006, and pavlova with blueberries and lemon curd sauce paired with the winery's Marlborough Hukupapa Riesling Dessert Wine 2006. Pierre Pastre of Chateau Fortia will host a Chateauneuf-du-Pape dinner tomorrow at La Villa 38 restaurant in Wan Chai. The six-course dinner includes pan-fried goose liver with aged balsamic, glazed figs and mango salsa paired with the Chateau Fortia Chateauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Red 2006, grilled tenderloin wrapped in pancetta with port wine jus and truffled gratin dauphinoise with the winery's Cuvee du Baron Red 2003, and a cheese course served with the Cuvee du Baron Red 1989. 1/5 Nuevo in Wan Chai hosts a dinner on Saturday featuring the wines of Spain's Bodegas Navajas. The menu includes cold tapas (mussels in mustard-herb dressing, gazpacho shooter, crab cocktail with pimentos) served with the Bodegas Navajas Rose 2007, hot appetisers (braised eel in red wine sauce, roasted cod) with the Bodegas Navajas Crianza 2005, and a main course of roast pigeon with bitter chocolate and coffee sauce served with the Gran Reserva 2001.
