Cyborg She (DVD)

From Kwak Jae-young, the director of My Sassy Girl, comes Cyborg She, a sci-fi rom-com about a robot from the future (Haruka Ayase) and her inventor boyfriend Kitamura Jiro (Keisuke Koide).

In 2070, the aged, physically disabled inventor Jiro sends the cyborg girl he has built back to 2007 to prevent an accident disabling his lonely, 20-year-old self. The cyborg saves the young Jiro and becomes his bodyguard.

She also becomes a celebrity as she uses her superpowers to save people. An unexpected romance blossoms between Jiro and his cyber-protector, despite their differences. The real action begins when a huge earthquake hits Tokyo. The visual effects are superb. The cyborg once again saves Jiro but puts her own life at risk.

Cyborg She is an enjoyable sci-fi fantasy. While some may find the story a bit melodramatic and the humour slightly forced, Ayase (Memories of Matsuko) gives an excellent performance.
