Hotels offer thrills for adventurers

Families are spoilt for choice with resort hotels now boasting anything from kids' zones and child-minding to adventure programmes and rooms packed with the latest video games.

The Laguna area on Phuket has Camp Laguna, which is run by Quest, an outdoor adventure-training organisation. Kids aged eight to 18 can be taken on half-day or full-day activities that include rock climbing, beach volleyball and crafts based in 2.8 hectares of tropical park land beside the Laguna Beach Club Hotel.

The Dusit Laguna has a Busy Bee Kids Klub for ages four to 12 and is open daily (9am-9pm) to provide a range of activities.

The Ramada Karon Beach Resort Phuket boasts a 'wonderland for kids' with rooms with themes ranging from fairytales to space and marine adventures.

Family travellers have used the blogosphere to highlight destinations in the Philippines such as Plantation Bay Resort in Cebu. The complex on a colonial plantation is built around one of the largest privately owned waterways in the world.

Staff at the children's centre keep youngsters enthralled with sandcastle building, feeding fish, face painting and more.

Kota Kinabalu's Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort boasts what may be the largest club in Malaysia for children, with padded areas and soft toys for toddlers, creative areas for arts and crafts, as well as a coffee area for parents to mingle.

Trips are also arranged to the orang-utan reserve at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort.

On the island of Langkawi, the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa is seen as ideal for active families, with water sports in abundance.

For the kids, there is a mini-golf course and animal farm while the Kiki Club (open 9am-9pm) offers free daily activities involving culture, arts and nature.
