Country park marked for landfill

The government has gazetted the cutting of 5 hectares off Clear Water Bay Country Park for a landfill extension. The public can submit written objections to the Country and Marine Parks Authority within 60 days of the gazettal. The authority has prepared a draft replacement map of the country park for public inspection, which shows the area to be excised.

2 held over toddler vandalism

Police arrested a mother, 39, and a babysitter, 54, after three boys aged two to four were seen by a passer-by throwing objects, including wooden poles and concrete debris, from a Mong Kok roof into Portland Street at about 3pm yesterday. A car was damaged.

Dog bites girl's mouth

A girl, five, was bitten on the mouth by a golden retriever in Sai Kung. A woman called police at about 3pm to report she had found a bleeding girl in a garden on Hang Hau Wing Lung Road. The girl was in stable condition last night.

Man treated after ant attack

A man, 30, was admitted to hospital after he was bitten by ants outside his Sheung Shui village house at about 2.30pm while using a hose to wash away an ant nest. The man sought help when he felt dizzy and fainted after having a hot shower.

Arson blamed for flat fire

Police were investigating a suspected arson case that forced dozen of residents from a building in Hung Hom. The fire broke out at about 3am in a third-floor flat at 153 Wuhu Street and was put out by firemen in 20 minutes.

Hiker, 71, flown to hospital

A 71-year-old hiker was flown to Eastern Hospital after falling sick on the MacLehose Trail near High Island Reservoir.
