Kurt Leswing, the 21-year-old American student killed by a suspected drink-driver in Happy Valley on November 8, had recently begun quoting retired archbishop Desmond Tutu to anyone who cared to listen.
The South African clergyman had paid a visit to the 650-odd students undertaking the Semester at Sea programme when their ship, the MV Explorer, stopped in Cape Town last month.
'Take the anger from your hearts. Wipe the tears from God's eyes. And live a life of love,' he would tell people.
It is advice they seem to have taken to heart as they deal with having Leswing, twin to brother Tait, torn from them.
A Facebook remembrance site has more than 500 members, many of whom talk warmly of the University of Wisconsin senior.
There is little anger expressed at the circumstances of his death.
Leswing was mowed down by a high-powered sports car at about 3.30am as he tried to hail a taxi on Wong Nai Chung Road.
