Samsung X360

Apple

The marketing campaign for Samsung's X360 says it's 'lighter than air'. However, the 'air' it refers to is not the mix of oxygen and nitrogen you breathe, but Apple's Macbook Air: the Macbook Air weighs 1.36kg, while the Samsung X360 come in at a whole 10g lighter.

Another comparison that Samsung highlights between the two models is the inclusion of multiple USB as well as media output ports, which the Macbook Air lacks.

On the downside, the Samsung's 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor is a bit slower than the Macbook's 1.6GHz unit. It does make up for it by offering 3GB of RAM, compared to only 2GB for most notebooks on the market today.

The X360 can't compare when it comes to dimensions - its 16.5mm-30.9mm thicknesses are gigantic compared to the Air's 4mm-19.4mm measurements.

But the extra space does give the X360 some advantages, namely more USB and output ports, as well as an integrated camera. It also means the X360 comes with a six-cell battery that offers up to 10 hours of use.

Like the Macbook Air, the X360 comes with a 13.3-inch display and comes with a 120GB hard disk drive with an option for a more durable 128GB Solid State drive. There's also support for all kinds of wireless networking, including 802.11a, b, g, and n, as well as Bluetooth.

The Samsung X360 with Windows Vista sells for $HK15,680.

Pros: one of the lightest full size notebooks on the market, 3GB of RAM, lots of ports, long battery life

Cons: basic graphics card, basic processor
