QUICK police action led to the arrest of five men following the alleged rape of a 17-year-old schoolgirl in Tsim Sha Tsui early yesterday.

Police said 10 patrolling officers raced to the scene after they were alerted by a pedestrian near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

The officers detained five men, aged 18 to 24, and later took the schoolgirl to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Police said the girl and a female friend had been drinking beer near the cultural centre in Salisbury Road just before 1.30 am.

The pair were approached by five men, one of whom later walked off with the victim's friend.

It is believed the four others then dragged the girl to a nearby staircase and sexually assaulted her.
