PolyU asked to design advanced tool for Sino-Russian mission to Mars

Polytechnic University has been commissioned by the Russian Space Agency to design an advanced tool for its mission next year. The tool, known as the Soil Preparation System, will be used in the Sino-Russian Space Mission to collect soil samples from a satellite of Mars. Alexander Zakharov, chief scientist of the Russian Academy of Science's Space Research Institute, visited Hong Kong this week to discuss the project.

Korean language and culture centre opens

Chinese University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies has opened the Korean Language Education and Culture Centre in Mong Kok. Boasting a wide collection of learning materials about Korean language and culture, the centre will help foster closer ties with South Korea by organising a variety of activities such as Korean speech contests and academic conferences.

Students to visit delta in patriotism drive

Some 1,600 local students and teachers will visit Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta over the next four months as part of a drive by the Education Bureau to strengthen national education in local schools. The participants, who come from 27 primary schools and 20 secondaries, will visit places including military barracks and sports institutes to learn more about Chinese history and culture.

CityU looking for deputy president

City University plans to recruit a deputy president who will be put in charge of fund-raising and strengthening relationships with alumni. CityU is the first local university to set up such a post.
