It is a requisite for staff at top-end hotels to present themselves in a most professional manner.

That extends to discreet service, formal dress and reserved behaviour in the most proper manner.

That's why it came as a bit of a shock to guests at the Langham Hotel Group's media holiday party at the Eaton Hotel last week when their entire marketing and promotion team entertained the crowd in the tackiest and cheesiest fashion, dancing in sequins and shocking fluorescent outfits to a medley of Abba tunes.

The night's Hollywood theme meant staff were already in embarrassing costumes resembling movie characters, but when they disappeared to change into something even gaudier and flashier, it was one of those so-bad-it-was-good moments. Kudos to public relations boss Ainslie Cheung (pictured), who had the guts as the lone male in his team of dancing queens to participate front and centre. 'Well, I had the idea for the Hollywood theme and then it just grew to include the little dance,' Cheung, in a glittering and glam disco-ball jacket, admitted.

'I'm actually a terrible dancer. I have two left feet, but we practised for two weeks.'

Let's see if the people at the Four Seasons, Penn or Grand Hyatt will ever have the courage to humiliate themselves in such an entertaining way.
