Social workers plead for understanding

The public should understand the plight of frontline social workers as they are overworked and understaffed, a social workers' union says. The Chinese Civil Servants Association's social security assistants branch, in an announcement in a Chinese-language newspaper yesterday, said the Social Welfare Department lacked the staff to handle welfare applications. This followed an Ombudsman's report last week on CSSA abuse.
