Exports decline 5pc year on year

Total exports last month fell 5.3 per cent year on year, the most since February 2005, the government said. Imports also fell the most in 45 months. The value of total exports of goods fell to HK$231.1 billion, of which re-exports fell 4.1 per cent to HK$224.3 billion and domestic exports shrank 31.5 per cent to HK$6.9 billion. Imports of goods fell by 7.9 per cent to HK$239.3 billion.

Census planned for 2011

The next population census will be conducted from June to August 2011 by the Census and Statistics Department. It will seek approval from the legislature in the middle of next year for HK$87 million to update computer systems to prepare for the census. Data collection is expected to be completed in 45 days.
