Positioned for peace

If, after moving into a new home, personal relationships within your family deteriorate, check the following fung shui issues.

Are there any mirrors in the bedroom that reflect the occupants when they sleep? If so, you should remove or cover the reflections. This includes mirrors on dressing tables that face the bed or ward-robes with mirrored doors. Are there exposed beams above where you sleep? Watch out for those above the middle of the bed, including structural protrusions that contain air conditioning ducts. Cover the beams with a false ceiling or reposition the bed. Are there any unsettling, turbulent or melancholic images on display? These can include scenes of waterfalls, storms or savage animals, and abstract art involving dark and moody colours or lonely figures. Do bedroom doors face each other? If so, cover them with curtains.

In the kitchen, are the water and fire elements, such as the sink and stove, directly opposite each other? They shouldn't be. If you can't relocate the stove, place a green or wooden mat in between the two.
