Independent body to handle complaints

Complaints against the police will be handled by a full-fledged statutory body from April 1. The commencement notice for the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) Ordinance was gazetted yesterday, and will be presented for discussion in the Legislative Council next Wednesday for negative vetting. The new body would investigate reports of police wrongdoing with more transparency, the government said.
