Who Would Win a Fight Between Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee?

by Nicholas Hobbes

Atlantic Books, HK$108

This is a book to have handy if you like to talk sport. It contains essay-length answers to 50 questions on everything from sumo to soccer to swimming. Unfortunately only some of the entries are interesting. Among them: why does sport favour left-handers? How do the dimples on a golf ball work? And, which sport has the fittest participants? Described as subjects 'thousands have debated in front of the TV and in the pub', Who Would Win a Fight Between Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee? also contains questions probably few have discussed seriously. Examples include: do some darts players actually need to drink alcohol? Why are Scorpios better at rugby than Leos? More questions than necessary are related to football, which will turn off readers who couldn't care less whether English footballers are really less intelligent than foreign players and why the England football team are under-achievers. The book has a clear target readership but there are also think pieces you may find handy if stuck for a conversation topic. If you fall into that category, read: are fascists better at sport?
