Rise in abuse of aged among families

A charity has reported a 13 per cent rise in cases of elderly people being abused by family members. The charity, Against Elderly Abuse, said it had handled 1,780 cases last year compared to 1,570 in 2007. Cheating relatives out of money accounted for 615 of the incidents. The organisation also handled 520 cases involving theft and embezzlement at private homes for the elderly.
