Commission sues firm over sacking

The Equal Opportunities Commission is suing Spy By L & Y, a firm it accuses of disability discrimination for sacking a slimming therapist. The writ says Connie Ng Wai-fun suffered neck and lower-back pain in 2004 and took sick leave occasionally. In 2006, she was sacked after taking a day's sick leave. She is seeking HK$50,000 damages. The commission said it hoped a court decision would provide a precedent for employers.
