VW tees up its Golf range

Volkswagen Hong Kong has set up test drives for 'the entire Golf series, including the Golf GTI and Golf GTI Pirelli' at its Texaco Road, Tsuen Wan, showroom tomorrow, says the marque's spokesman, Samson Leung. 'Customers can enjoy up to HK$39,000 discount on specific models,' he says. Drives will be available between 10am and 7pm, with reservation hotlines tel: 3698 9688 (today) or 3698 9733 (tomorrow). The Golfs are worth a look because they handle and park well here and embody Volkswagen's advances in engine efficiency. The two-litre, 200hp GTi (HK$248,000-HK$298,000) is fun, but we would still go for the 170hp, 1.4-litre Golf GT (HK$225,000) which costs less to tax, goes like the clappers and is all you need for a comfy commute and sprint to the airport.

Show touts Spyker vroom

We hear racing driver Marchy Lee will present a HK$4 million Spyker (below) at the Top Gear Show in a 3,000-seat hall in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 20-22.

'My company CarPro is the sole dealer for Spyker in Hong Kong, and we thought it would be a great idea to show all of the Top Gear fans and anyone who loves cars this really special automobile,' says Lee, who is scheduled to co-present the seven-show vroomfest with BBC presenters Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. CarPro has yet to send us details of the Spyker but Top Gear's publicists say they have sold 'over 8,000' standard (HK$288) premium (HK$588) and VIP (HK$988) tickets (available via HK Ticketing, tel: 3128 8288; hkticketing.com).
