Marwing looms as Whyte's biggest challenger
A Jockey Challenge with more permutations than Rubik's Cube could mean punters should avoid the short odds about champion jockey Douglas Whyte as he bids to make it a hat-trick of Challenges in the space of eight days.
Having got off the deck last Saturday for a last-gasp win after trailing on a 30-4 scoreline, Whyte's fans had a much more straight-forward ride on Wednesday night when he won the opening race on King Creole and was never headed.
This afternoon, despite being on board the glamour horse Unique Jewellery in the Mercedes-Benz Classic Mile, Whyte's ($1.70) book of rides are useful rather than dazzling, as exemplified by National Glory, posted a $1.9 favourite in the opening race, despite his maiden status and doubtful temperament.
With the weight of the John Moore yard behind him, a better value option is Weichong Marwing ($7.00), who should get a 'free kick' with Happy Zero in the fifth. He has also picked up winning chances - Mighty Winner, Kings Falcon and Rewarding Star.
Brett Prebble ($8.00) is the other clear winning chance.
