Hong Kong returned home after a successful build-up to the World Cup Sevens when they reached the quarter-finals in the Cup competition at the Hottest Sevens in Darwin before losing to eventual winners, the Digicel Barbarians - the national Samoan side in disguise. 'The guys played well and I'm happy with how we went,' said pleased sevens coach Rodney McIntosh. Hong Kong defeated Randwick 19-12 to enter the Cup quarter-finals where they lost 34-0 to the Samoans, who went on to defeat the Waisale Serevi-led South Sea Drifters 17-15 in the final.
