How to improve our education system

Our students' academic performances and conduct are deteriorating. I think our education system needs to be changed.

Firstly, we need smaller classes. It would result in improved academic results.

Smaller classes allow teachers to get to know their students better and spend more time with the weaker ones.

All students do better with more attention, and they would also be more likely to interact with their teachers and each other in smaller groups.

Therefore, I think a small-class policy should be introduced in all secondary schools in Hong Kong.

Furthermore, schools should put more emphasis on liberal studies subjects, especially Human Relationships. They are very important.

We need to give our students more practical skills that they will need as adults, such as communication skills.

Keep your promises

I think young people need to be reminded of the importance of keeping promises.

Too often they will say 'I promise I will do my homework' or 'I promise I will not be late anymore', but fail to act accordingly.

Think carefully before making a promise.

Never promise a promise if you are not sure whether you can fulfil it.

Sports days are for all students

Most schools hold sports days to let students demonstrate their athletic skills. But not everyone enjoys these activities.

Once when I was taking part in sports day, I looked up into the crowd and saw some students chatting instead of watching the games. It made me angry some people weren't paying attention while others were making so much effort.

I think sports days are important because they help us relax and take a break from school life. They also strengthen the bond between students and teachers.

Even if you don't like sports, you should appreciate the benefits of sports days.

The best way to tour is with a group

Travelling is a great way to enrich your life, learn about culture and history, and broaden your horizons.

I think the best way to travel is in a tour group.

A good tour guide will make your trip interesting and entertaining by supplying constant information, and explaining the histories and characteristics of places you visit.

A well-planned package tour allows you to relax and enjoy the holiday instead of constantly worrying about arrangements.

Tour groups also allow you to make new friends.

No manners

Hong Kong teenagers lack courtesy and consideration. I think the main reason for this is the rising divorce rate.

Children from single-parent families may not get a chance to learn good behaviour from the one parent looking after them because the parent is busy working.

Many teenagers do not exercise self-discipline. For example, they think it is acceptable to use foul language in public. I think the situation is becoming worse.
