The talented 10-pound apprentice has caught the eye of many a race watcher in scoring 10 wins so far in his first season, but unfortunately he has also caught the ire of the stewards. Jamie Stier's panel handed out a three-day ban to Leung yesterday for his ride on Animation in the third event and the chief stipe explained the heavier than usual penalty by noting it was Leung's third careless riding offence for the term. The young rider also missed much of December after copping another five-day penalty for failing to ride dead-heater Salut Beaute out to the line to the satisfaction of stewards on November 23, making a total of 12 meetings he has missed of the 38 run in the season. Leung's penalty for causing interference at the 1,200m to Heimori, Super Fantasy and Cover Boy yesterday was deferred until after the February 15 - the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby Trial meeting - and he will return to riding on February 26.
