U2 Premier League

AN under-strength Eagle Star line-up extended their lead in the U2 Premier league with a 5-1 home triumph over Rubicon at the Hong Kong Football Club last night, writes Norideen Kitchell.

Regular number two Alan Hicks was unavailable and although stand-in Ken Geissler went down in straight games to Fayyaz Mohammad, Eagle Star won the other three rubbers through Peter Hill, Joseph Kwok Man-wai and Ian Hardy.

Hill crushed junior international Jackie Lee Chun-kit 15-14, 15-1, 15-3 while Kwok had to dig deep into his reserves to come back from two games down to stop youngster Wong Wai-chung 12-15, 10-15, 15-9, 15-6, 15-3.

Hardy, a former regular in the Club first team but now relegated to the reserve list, made the most of the opportunity to beat teenager Yan Tsz-keung 15-8, 14-15, 15-10, 15-5.

Eagle Star top the chart with 40 points, six clear of Express who leapt past Rubicon into second position after a 5-1 victory over Perrier.

Rubicon are on 33 with Cathay Pacific, 4-2 victors over Fuji, one point behind.
