Learning from documentary making

My friends and I joined a documentary-making competition. It had three categories. Our team made an 11-minute short film on the topic Science, Technology & Environment. It was called Mobile Phone & Communication. To our surprise and delight, we won top prize.

We learned a lot from the shooting process. For example, we realised that producing an interesting, informative documentary is not an easy job. And as we had never made a documentary before, it was a both a challenge and a trial.

However, just understanding the difficulties was not enough for us to achieve our goal. Time management and co-operation were also important. Good teamwork can speed up progress and everyone can focus on their special skills.

I enjoyed taking part in this competition greatly. It was a rewarding experience for me.

From the Editor

Thanks for your letter, Steve, and congratulations to you and your team for your success. Isn't it great to try something new? You can learn so much from projects such as these, and you can carry that knowledge across to other aspects of your life.

Time management is a very useful skill to develop. It can make our busy lives so much easier and enable us to achieve much more in a given period.

It just goes to show that daring to take a step in a different direction brings its own rewards.
