With the weather gradually warming up, it's the perfect time to head outdoors, and the WWF's Thousands of Birds in Action tour is a good choice.

Birds fly to Hong Kong from the north to avoid the cold every year, making this a good time for bird watching. You might have a chance to witness a fantastic scene - thousands of birds eating in the same estuary pond - or gei wai.

Every winter, WWF stocks the gei wai with fish to feed the cormorants. The aim is to reduce the amount of commercial fish they eat in fishponds around Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay.

A guide takes visitors around the feeding areas and the Wildlife Education Centre and explains why the management of Mai Po is important for migratory birds and helps visitors to understand more about their eating habits and the wonders of wildlife. Tours are available every Friday until the end of March for HK$260. Call 2471 3480 for more information.
