Pentax Optio E60

While cameras with more than 10 mega-pixels have been around for several years, they have always been expensive. Now the Pentax Optio E60 offers you 10.1 mega-pixels for just over HK$1,000.

That means a resolution of 3,648 x 2,736 pixels, or roughly three times the number of pixels on the average PC monitor.

As expected for an entry-level model, the Optio E60 is designed for users who don't want to deal with too many manual settings. It even comes with something called the 'green' - as in inexperienced - mode that will reset and automate all settings for the shot.

There are also numerous modes for different scenes, including landscape, portrait and sport.

Another useful feature if you're new to digital cameras is the image recovery function, which allows you to retrieve photos that you might have deleted by accident.

It also offers the ability to shoot 16 continuous frames over two seconds, so you'll definitely get a shot where the subject's eyes are not shut, or looking away.

This camera is equipped with a 3x optical zoom, and a 2.4-inch LCD display. It can also shoot VGA-quality (640x480 pixels) video at 30 frames per second.

At HK$1,080, this is a great camera for novices who don't want to have to fiddle with settings. It is also a fine second camera for avid users for less formal occasions.

Pros: 10.1 mega-pixels, easy to use, uses standard AA batteries, 16-frame continuous shooting, entry-level price tag

Cons: limited manual settings, poor aperture settings (F2.9-F5.2)
