Paul O'Sullivan could have been forgiven for getting sick and tired of his 14-start maiden Amazing Journey, but the slow-maturing five-year-old finally rewarded the patience of all concerned with a thumping win in the sixth event as $38 favourite. Amazing Journey, given a quiet ride by Douglas Whyte that optimised his strong finish, ran home over the top of his rivals, wide out on the course, to score softly by 21/4 lengths from the consistent and admirable Mega Bullet. 'He's starting to put it together,' O'Sullivan said. 'It hasn't been all his fault that he's continued to get beaten, he's run into a couple of smart ones at times but today, everything finally went his way and he won quite well. I think he's the sort of horse that might be able to win again when the rains come at the end of the season.' The win was the bright spot on the day for Whyte, who now leads the jockeys' premiership by 23 wins from Brett Prebble on a 55-32 scoreline.
