Trailer not for children

AS a parent I believe it is my responsibility to monitor what my children view on television. However, I am frequently disturbed by the movie trailers that pop up on the screen when they are least expected.

I would have no complaints if trailers for horror movies were only screened after 8.30pm, but I find it very annoying when such trailers are aired on a Saturday morning, during what is ostensibly a time for children's viewing.

On Saturday, March 12, at about 9.46 am - between Dinosaurs and The Kennedys - TVB screened a trailer for the horror feature, The Guardian. It was not a very pleasant sequence and I would certainly not have wanted my children to watch it. Unfortunately, when it comes to the timing of such trailers the viewing public is completely at the mercy of the stations - which I feel should use a lot more discretion in this respect.

The Guardian is not suitable viewing for children, as I'm sure the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority would agree. So why are the television stations allowed to broadcast such trailers at a time when children are obviously going to be watching television? STEVE HARRISON Sai Kung
