Copybook display means reduced allowance

Murray Bell

The 25-year-old had his five pounds allowance clipped to three after giving a copybook display to win the distance event for his former boss Tony Millard. It was a compensation race for Millard, who had saddled up the odds-on favourite in the griffin race only to see the 'good thing' Royal Flush (Olivier Doleuze) go under to California Moon. Yeung gave Zephyrus ($67) every chance and the critical part was his positive early approach, crossing from barrier 13 to enjoy a rails run just behind the leading division. Yeung was suspended for nine meetings by stewards on Thursday after being charged with failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to win last week's Centenary Vase on Packing Winner. Although gobsmacked at the stewards' finding, Yeung decided against putting himself through the ordeal of an appeal. Yeung will ride at the next two meetings before the suspension takes effect.
