Three months' jail for manager
A manager who took bribes from an employment agent to hire staff was jailed for three months. Andrew Toh, 45, from food products company Four Seas Mercantile, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to accept advantages. Toh, who was in charge of promotional events for his company's products, received half of an introduction fee of HK$50 per day that the agent, Sum Cheuk-ming, 45, took from the workers.
Wife arrested in acid attack
Police arrested a 46-year-old woman for pouring acid on her husband in the couple's flat in Choi Yip House, Choi Fai Estate, Choi Hung. The 48-year-old man was making breakfast in the kitchen when the attack happened at 5.30am. He suffered burns to his head, chest and back. His wife also suffered burns to her hands. Both were in serious condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night.
Betting slips seized
A tip-off led police to the arrest of a suspected bookmaker and seizure of 10 soccer betting slips outside Golden Computer Arcade in Fuk Wing Street, Sham Shui Po, at 2am.
Suspected burglar, 71, arrested
Police arrested a 71-year-old suspected burglar hiding in bush outside a village house in Tsuen Wan at about 12.45pm after a villager reported seeing someone trying to prise open the front door.
Two men attacked outside pub
Two men, aged 22 and 26, were injured in an attack by about 10 people, some armed with bottles, outside a pub in Hau Fook Street, Tsim Sha Tsui, at 5.30am. The pair were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Police arrested two youths, aged 17 and 23.
