A group of Rohingya families from Myanmar will arrive in Ireland next month under a United Nations resettlement scheme, The Irish Times reported.

The 78 refugees - 28 adults and 50 children - have been living in a UN-backed camp on the Bangladeshi side of the border since their families originally fled Myanmar 17 years ago. They will spend six weeks at an orientation centre in County Mayo to prepare them for the culture shock of permanent resettlement, the newspaper reported this week.

'The refugees selected for resettlement left Burma in 1992 at a very young age and have lived in camps on the Bangladesh/Burmese border since then,' the Department of Justice told the paper.
