Smart win for three-year-old
It hasn't all been plain sailing for Winner Smart, but the three-year-old put away any bad memories with an impressive win first-up. Brett Prebble, who has done all the work with the gelding to get him ready for trainer Manfred Man Ka-leung, took Winner Smart back from a wide gate, found the rail then produced him with a strong finish to win, and then found an understanding stewards panel afterwards. 'When I came out, Winner Smart caused a little interference to Oasis David but it was the first time the horse had been in that sort of position and the stewards saw that it was just his greenness,' Prebble said. Man said he had endured a few early problems with Winner Smart. 'The work rider misunderstood me one day and gave him stronger work and he pulled some muscles in his back,' Man said. 'So that took some time to get right.'
