Former Student Musician of the Year leads HKPO in Quarry Bay

Three orchestra recitals will be given by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra from next Wednesday to Friday starting at 6.30pm.

The free one-hour concerts will be held at new cultural space ArtisTree in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay.

Perry So Pak-hin, 26, will be conducting 70 musicians from the orchestra. He won first prize at the 5th International Prokofiev Conducting Competition last year.

He is also a former South China Morning Post Student Musician of the Year.

He will lead the orchestra in delightful classical pieces including Rossini's The Thieving Magpie overture and Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite.

Richard Bamping, principal cellist with the orchestra, will solo in Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor on Thursday.

So, currently assistant conductor of the orchestra, showed great musical flair from a young age.

He studied at Yale University, where he was musical director of the Saybrook Orchestra and the Opera Theatre of Yale College. He also founded the YUE International Music Festival based in Huangshan in 2007. For enquires, call 2844 5096
