Hello Kitty gets own makeup line - but where does the lipstick go?
Hello Kitty may not have a mouth, but she is helping to sell a lot of lipstick.
MAC, the cosmetics company, has teamed up with Sanrio and is putting out a complete Kitty makeup line this month. This is, perhaps, the ultimate exploitation of cuteness, though I have to say they look pretty cool, even to a guy.
'To me, MAC Hello Kitty embodies the ultimate beauty icon,' Jennifer Balbier, senior vice-president of product development for MAC Worldwide, said in a company statement. 'She's sweet and sexy, slightly edgy.' Every lipstick and powder kit has an imprint of Kitty's head.
And, just to show there is no length to which Sanrio won't go to make a buck, executives have readied Kitty for a radical makeover, so to speak, for the new makeup line - a complete species change, no less!
After 34 years, they are now hinting that Kitty might not be a cat after all, but a girl - 'a girl without a mouth' - so she 'speaks from the heart', according to Sanrio.
But what about the whiskers?
Sorry Kitty fans, you've been deceived all these years.
