The Prodigy Invaders Must Die (Cooking Vinyl)

New Rave has come and gone since the Prodigy's disappointingly meek last album, Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, in 2004. But musical trends are no matter to Liam Howlett, the creative force of the band, who, alongside the Chemical Brothers and Leftfield, jacked up the volume on the world's rave scene. On Invaders Must Die he's content to plough that same furrow, with familiar massive beats, ear-splitting distortions and his loud, angry sneer.

After going it alone last time out, Howlett wisely teams up again with Keith Flint and Maxim Reality, and it sounds like they're having fun again. The result is a return to form of sorts, even though the songs don't sound relevant any more. Warrier's Dance is a reprise of No Good and Run With the Wolves is another rave from the grave.

Howlett, reviving his own sound, appears to be targeting the band's legion of faithful fans rather than the next jilted generation.
