Bolshoi to select two HK academy dancers to study in Russia
Ballet companies don't come more renowned than the Bolshoi. In a first, two students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts will be chosen by a pair of Bolshoi directors to join the Russian ballet company for a semester. It's the first time Chinese ballet dancers - and that's throughout China - will have been chosen by the Bolshoi, according to the academy's assistant public relations manager, Wendy Chung Wing-yan.
'The Bolshoi company has established a relationship with the academy,' she said. 'Under a sponsorship programme they will pick two students from our academy for the Bolshoi academy. The two directors from the Bolshoi academy are coming here to observe classes.'
Anton Getman, deputy director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, and Marina Leonova, director of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, will choose the students today. The announcement will be made in the presence of HKAPA director Kevin Thompson.
There'll be some sweaty palms on the ballet barre today as assessments take place.
