Police veteran caught wearing fishnet stockings and little else

An off-duty policeman was arrested for indecent exposure after being found wearing fishnet stockings in a park in Tai Po early yesterday.

A passing motorist spotted the 49-year-old senior constable wearing only the stockings shortly after midnight and called police.

The man had put on a jacket by the time officers arrived. There was no one else in the park.

A police source said a pair of high-heeled shoes was also found and the man's car was at the scene.

The source said the results of an initial investigation showed the off-duty policeman had driven to the park and then dressed like a woman. The source added that they believed he did that in a public place for the excitement.

'The initial investigation showed that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs,' the source said. 'We suspect that he is addicted to cross-dressing.'

The senior constable has been released on bail pending further investigation. He is required to report back to police next month.

The officer, who has been in the police force for more than 20 years, is attached to Central police station. It is understood he is married with children.

Detectives from Tai Po district crime squad are investigating the case.

A police spokesman confirmed that a 49-year-old off-duty policeman had been arrested in connection with an indecent exposure case.

'At this stage, he is not suspended from duty, but it has been arranged for him to take holidays,' the spokesman said.

A police spokesman said the force could offer counselling.

In January, police chiefs announced that recruits would undergo psychological profiling from next year and ethics officers would be appointed to monitor behaviour.

The move followed the release of survey results that found satisfaction with the force dropped nearly 8 percentage points to a seven-year low of 62.4 per cent in the last quarter of last year after media reports about a policeman charged with raping a woman in Mong Kok station.
