Jackie Chan

Keep Chan's souvenirs in HK

Jackie Chan should be given land to keep his collection of antique houses and film souvenirs.

The martial arts hero has brought great honour to Hong Kong. It is very important that Hong Kong keeps his valued antiques of the Ming and Qing dynasties, costumes and film awards in a Jackie Chan Museum.

Otherwise, they will be shipped to Singapore. This would be a disgrace to his birthplace.

The government must act on Chan's request without delay.

Many mainland tourists are great fans of Hong Kong's movie stars. They flock to the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, taking photos and touching the handprints.

A Jackie Chan Museum will attract more mainlanders to Hong Kong and boost its tourism industry.

Chan says he first offered to donate the houses 10 years ago. But the government's slow response prompted him to offer the houses and his movie memorabilia to Singapore.

The Lion City took only seven days to give Chan an answer. How long will Hong Kong take?

The greatest lesson of all

The 'warrior', Nick Vujicic, delivered a two-hour talk in the school hall recently.

Nick was born without limbs - he only has one small left foot with two toes. But he was passionate about life and never gave up. He believes God will always support him.

Nick's positive attitude has helped him overcome many obstacles and brightened up the lives of those around him.

We can all learn from Nick's perseverance - his disability did not stop him from achieving his goals.

He has showed us that nothing is impossible, if you are determined and work hard.

Nowadays, people get depressed by failure.

They want to escape from reality and don't realise they're a lot luckier than Nick.

Nick is a wonderful role model. He has taught us to try our best at all times and live life to the full.

Drug shame

Pop singers Jill Vidal and Kelvin Kwan Chor-yiu were arrested for possessing cannabis in Tokyo, Japan earlier this month.

Kwan allegedly told police he brought the drug from Hong Kong. The star duo are idolised by many teenagers so they should act responsibly.

It is hard to accept role models who are involved in drug-related offences.

Integrity the key

Our school has a theme for every term. For this term, the theme is integrity.

I think integrity is very important in every stage of our life. But some people use dishonest methods to achieve their aims.

For example, one of my classmates always cheats during tests. He doesn't care about the feelings of other students.

He may get high marks, but his integrity is zero.

When people find out you are dishonest, no one will trust you anymore.

Less wastage

Food wastage is a serious problem in Hong Kong. On the contrary, a lot of people in developing countries don't have enough to eat.

Hence, I support the 'less rice' campaign launched by some restaurants in Hong Kong.

These eateries, which offer a discount of HK$1 to their customers, should place a sticker on the counter to indicate they gave joined the campaign.

Besides, it is widely known that hotel buffets are a source of massive food wastage. Hotels should make their customers pay more if they waste food.
