Danzulu punches well above his weight

Murray Bell

Danzulu may not be one of the bigger horses, but nobody's told the David Hall-trained gelding, who once again come through some rough stuff with character to claim the River Verdon Handicap in the final bound. 'He's about 14.3 [hands high] but he thinks he's a big horse,' said Hall, who completed a double after the earlier win of Bullish Gold. 'It was a similar story in his previous win, when he met interference but still won. All he wants to do is hit the line. He definitely fights above his weight.' Jockey Brett Prebble said a horse that tries as hard as Danzulu is a jockey's delight. 'In each of his wins, he would have had excuses if he'd been beaten but he's won them both,' Prebble said. 'He's only small but he has a heart as big as himself.' The son of Catbird might take longer to put himself into the grip of the handicapper.
